I met Rob at a networking breakfast several years ago and was immediately drawn to his no-nonsense way of communicating… all with a smile. He was magnetic, honest and had a plan. After watching him win the school board position, I was happy to hear that he was running for Hays County Commissioner this spring. I knew it would be a great opportunity to introduce you to he and his family!
Meet my friend Rob McClelland!
Rob, tell us more about yourself…
Family and selfless service is at the foundation of everything I do. My wife Katy and I are raising our kids right here in Dripping Springs, where we work, worship, and stay involved. Like many families in Hays County, we’re busy with school, sports, church, and community events, and we’re grateful to be surrounded by neighbors who look out for one another.
I’m a combat veteran, small business leader, and youth baseball coach who believes deeply in service and personal responsibility. Whether it’s time spent with my family, volunteering in the community, or working to serve others, I’m guided by the same values—faith, integrity, and commitment. Those values shape who I am as a husband, father, and community leader, and they’re what drive me to serve Hays County.
How long have you lived within DSISD?
My family and I moved to Dripping Springs in 2017 upon the completion of my career as United States Army Officer. We were very pleased God blessed us with the opportunity to come home to Texas and settle down in the Texas Hill Country.
What do you love about this community?
I love the strong sense of small town community, local pride, and willingness to show up for one another. This is a place where neighbors still care about neighbors, value hard work, and want to preserve what makes our town special.
You ran for the school board a few years ago, what were the most valuable things you learned about the community during that process?
I learned how deeply people care about their kids, schools, and tax dollars. I also learned the importance of listening first and communicating clearly, even when people don’t always agree.
What made you decide to run for County Commissioner?
I want to continue serving this community at a broader level—focusing on public safety, infrastructure, and responsible growth—while bringing common-sense leadership to county government.
What exactly does a county commissioner do?
County Commissioners set the county budget, oversee infrastructure like roads and drainage, support public safety, and help shape policies that directly affect residents’ daily lives.
If you could wave a magic wand and solve some of the area’s biggest problems, what would you tackle first?
I’d address growth-related infrastructure challenges—especially roads, drainage, and public safety—so our county can grow responsibly without sacrificing quality of life.
When is the election and how do people vote?
The Republican Primary election is in March 2026. Voters can participate through early voting beginning on February 17th or on Election Day on March 3rd. I encourage everyone to check their registration and make a plan to vote.
