Get Support Together with Brea Black in Dripping Springs Texas

I first met Brea when I started a networking lunch for women entrepreneurs in Dripping Springs. She was running a small business consulting firm and we connected right away. Her kindness, transparency and zest for life really stood out to me. I would always love when she would show up and we got to know one another a little more.

Then she helped market one of the funniest events I have ever seen, Goat Couture. I was one of the first sponsors to sign up because it was such a wild idea! I made goat face tattoos and had a goat coloring page contest for the kids with the winner getting custom made goat sugar cookies.

After her car accident I was able to spend some time with her at her home and loved how through such tragedy and physical setback, she was able to come up with the vision for Get Support Together. Learn more about my friend, Brea, and her new journey to make sure that everyone can find the right mental health support for their needs…

Hey Brea! Tell us more about yourself…

I’m a Northeast Ohio transplant who traded suburban life for the Texas Hill Country in 2019—and I’ve never looked back. These days, I wear a lot of hats: mom to four (two biological, two bonus kids), wife to my husband Stephen, goat rancher, business developer, and part-time Tractor Supply team member. Life is beautifully chaotic, and I wouldn’t have it any other way. After years in corporate marketing and owning two businesses (both successfully sold), I channeled my grit into building Get Support Together—a passion project I completed while recovering from a major car accident.

Those nine months tested me (post-concussion syndrome and physical setbacks were no joke), but finishing the site reminded me: I’ve always been the person who powers through, no matter what.

When I’m not working, you’ll find me tending to our Henly ranchette, laughing with my goats, or getting my hands dirty in the garden. Becoming empty nesters led us to this slice of heaven, and Stephen and I still pinch ourselves watching the hill country sunsets from our deck. Texas gave me unexpected roots, and this chapter—with its challenges and joys—has brought me a greater sense of purpose and belonging than I ever thought possible.

What brought you to Dripping Springs?

My husband, Stephen, is a proud Texas native who had been living in Ohio for over 15 years – 12 of those by my side. By 2019, we found ourselves at a turning point: Stephen’s career as an orthopedic physical therapist had plateaued and our family was struggling to navigate complex mental health challenges with one of our children. It became clear we needed a change.

On a whim, I suggested Stephen reconnect with his former boss to explore opportunities back in Texas. The response was pure Texas-sized generosity- When do you want to be here, and where do you want to live? I’ll have a job waiting; His supervisor pointed us to Dripping Springs, and just like that, six weeks later, we arrived with one of our kids, two dogs, and even our horse in tow. We purchased a property off Ranch Road 12 north and then moved out to Henly in 2024.

What do you love most about living here?

Almost everything—though I’ll admit my heart aches watching ranches disappear into subdivisions, chipping away at the small-town charm that drew us here.

We arrived six months before COVID shut the world down, which turned out to be a blessing in disguise. Instead of Austin’s social scene, we fell in love with our corner of the hill country—exploring backroads, hidden swimming holes, and the quiet magic of Drip and its neighboring towns.
But the real soul of this place? The people. That frontier spirit still runs deep here. You feel it when strangers wave from their trucks, when neighbors become friends at Christmas on Mercer, or the support given women-to-women at local business networking groups.

We’re Jewish, but some Sundays you’ll find me at Henly Baptist Church—not for the theology, but for the community that has wrapped Stephen and I with so much love. And oh, the adventures: bourbon flights at the distilleries as the sun sets over the hills, wine tastings, and the majestic drive down 165 to Blanco. What I have found is Dripping Springs isn’t just where we live. It’s where we belong.

Tell us more about Get Support Together… What is it and how did it start?

Get Support Together isn’t just a project—it’s the culmination of every hardship, every unanswered cry for help, and every moment I wished someone had handed me a roadmap to mental health care.

The Seeds (2005–2010) It started with my daughter. At three, her mental health struggles baffled doctors; by five, she needed a psychiatrist. Her eventual neurological diagnosis in 2010 brought answers, but as her mother, I was left exhausted drowning in a system that made finding help harder than the crisis itself.

The Breaking Point (2011–2021)
Divorce. Abuse. Trauma. By 2013, I could barely open my mail without shaking—until the National Council of Jewish Women in Cleveland, Ohio threw me a lifeline. Then I met Stephen. He was battling his own war: a toxic divorce and a daughter in relentless mental health crises. We became two broken people whispering the same desperate question: “Why is no one helping us so we can help her?” By 2021, after my stepdaughter was removed from our home, I lay in a bathtub one night, begging for sleep instead of darker thoughts. That’s when the name came to me: Get Support Together.

The Turning Point (2023–2024)
After my father’s death from rapid-onset dementia—a complex, soul-shaking loss—his inheritance gave us two gifts: our Texas land and the seed money for GST. But it was my friend Leslie Tourish, a therapist here in Drip, who sealed it. When I told her the idea in February 2024, she was ecstatic for our community —and Stephen and I knew: It’s time.

The Mission
Today, Get Support Together is building what I needed but never had: a single, living database of every mental health resource—from church support groups to residential treatment centers—so no one has to beg, Google for hours, or break down alone. The bottom line is – help shouldn’t be this hard to find.

Who does this service benefit?
In short: everyone.

As Get Support Together grows, our top priority is building a national network of
trusted mental health resources—from crisis hotlines and community programs to treatment centers and private therapists. By late summer 2025, we aim to offer a comprehensive, user-friendly directory where providers can showcase their services and those in need can find real help, without the frustration and misleading information available through web searches.

But GST isn’t just a directory—it’s a lifeline born from lived experience. As a mother who’s navigated the system’s gaps, I’m driven by two urgent goals:
1. Creating a centralized crisis resource hub so no family is forced to scour the
internet in their darkest moments, or even worse when traveling.
2. Exposing misleading programs (like those in the Troubled Teen Industry) while elevating ethical, evidence-based care.
Whether someone needs a support group, emergency intervention, or long-term
therapy, GST will meet them where they are—confidentially, without judgment, and with the hope that healing is possible.

Why is mental health so important to you personally?

Mental health isn’t just a cause I support—it’s a thread woven through every relationship in my life. I don’t know a single person in my circle who hasn’t grappled with it, including myself.

My own journey taught me the difference between help and real help. In my mid-20s, I left therapy frustrated and convinced it didn’t work—until my early 30s, when I found a therapist whose skills matched my needs. For the first time, I unraveled years of buried trauma and began understanding the woman I was and the one I wanted to become. That transformation? It’s why I know access to the right care at the right time changes lives. While I’ve been spared the agony of losing someone to suicide, too many I love haven’t. I’ve never been hospitalized for mental health, but I’ve sat in waiting rooms, holding the hands of those who were. Mental health doesn’t discriminate. It touches the wealthy and the struggling, the young and the old, every identity and background. When we talk about mental health, we’re really talking about people—their struggles, their survival, and their right to be empowered with knowledge to decide about their mental health care journey.

What do you hope to do for people’s lives through Get Support Together?

My mission is simple but transformative: I want to make finding mental health
support as easy as Googling a restaurant—so no one must hit rock bottom before getting help.
The concern is even hitting rock bottom often doesn’t earn someone the support they deserve. I hope through early intervention we can connect people to the right care before crises escalate—whether that’s a support group, therapist, or treatment center. I also hope to prevent unnecessary trauma from hospitalizations and jail by providing crisis resources beyond 911. If even one family finds help without enduring what we did, GST will have been worth it. Quality mental health care shouldn’t be a privilege. It’s a basic human need.

How can we follow along on your journey or learn more?

Right now, Get Support Together is a labor of love—a self-funded startup built while I navigate my own recovery from a brain injury. (Turns out, healing and hustling can coexist!)
