The fourth of July is my absolute favorite holiday in the Texas Hill Country! Summer is in full swing, fireworks stands are open, watermelon and snow cones are for sale and the Wimberley Rodeo and Fire in the Sky at Hog Heaven are on the bucket list!

If you are new to the Dripping Springs area and wondering what to do for the fourth then you’ve got to check out Fire in the Sky at the Hog Heaven shooting range and then the Wimberley VFW Rodeo!

We’ve attended Fire in the Sky since it began and it is a casual event on the property at Hog Heaven’s clay shooting range and you can pull in with your vehicle and bring footballs, picnic blankets, ice chests and lawn chairs and sit and enjoy the massive fireworks show with hundreds of other locals. It is super casual and a great place to experience a great show up close in a very casual atmosphere.

They have had a few food trucks the last few years, but the selections were limited to hamburgers and tacos.
My most favorite event of the year, besides Founders Day, is the Wimberely VFW rodeo! This event is called “The Best Small Town Rodeo in Texas” and sends you back in time to the 1990s with an outdoor rodeo in an old arena with world class bull riders, mutton busting and even an adult calf chase.

The event gains popularity every year and so you need to show up at least an hour early with cash to get a good stadium seat. It is an BYOB event, but they also sell food and have different booths to buy things.

The show begins with the national anthem and vintage bomber flyover and ends with a fireworks show. I just love it every year! Read more info on their website for ticket info and dates!
