6 Guidelines to Make Sure your Dripping Springs Remodel is Timeless, not Trendy

6 Guidelines to Make Sure your Dripping Springs Remodel is Timeless, not Trendy

By HouseMill Design

One of the most common requests our design team gets is to help craft a remodel that will stand the test of time. “Timeless, not Trendy” is a goal that many homeowners are seeking to achieve. Here are a few guidelines that our design team uses to create enduring, classic interiors:

1. Consider how your house will function in all seasons of life, not just your immediate stage. What you need this year may be different in five years. For example, plan built-in storage to have adjustable shelves and avoid anything too specific like a built-in toy bin when children will grow out of that specific need in just a few years.

2. A home that visually looks anchored in its own past and the environmental surroundings looks more “timeless” than others. Consider the architecture and bones of the house and do not deviate too far from the original structure. Trying to force a Mid Century ranch style home to become a modern industrial loft is going to read as trendy and inauthentic to the original building style.

3. Remember that algorithms are crafted to show you more of the same thing! Looking for inspo on social media platforms can be helpful, but many platforms are going to send you into an echo chamber of only one style, pushing what is the most popular or the top trendy current searches. To avoid this, use a variety of inspo sources, and rely on analog sources like books or photos from travel.

4. Lean into a  layered neutral color palette instead of bright colors for hard surfaces. If you love a pop of color, bring that color into a room with furnishings, soft goods or art instead of tile or cabinets. These items are easier to change when popular colors ebb and flow over the years.

5. Splurge on beautiful, high quality natural materials. For example, a lovely natural stone (granite, quartzite or marble) countertop is going to be timeless and beautiful in a way that only nature can provide. Stone and wood elements are always in style and metals that are brushed finishes tend to blend well with natural materials.

6. Think of light fixtures and hardware as the jewelry of the home. These are elements that can be swapped out as trends change, but classic silhouettes and finishes will stand the test of time, much like a nice wrist watch or a pearl necklace.
