Ya’ll know that I’m on my computer too much and am always popping into the Dripping Springs Neighbors facebook page for a quick browse to see which car is being shamed for bad driving, who’s dog is loose and my favorite kind of post- what new businesses are opening in Drip! Well this is how I found out about Drip’s newest restaurant and saw that it was opening today!
I was excited to see what Vespa Rossa was going to be! Vespa Rossa means “Red Wasp” and if you live in this area then you know exactly what those are! Vespa Rossa took over the old Austin Java location and it had been sitting vacant for a long time. I had never even been in there when it was Austin Java and it looks very unassuming from the exterior.
Josh and I had a lunch date right when they opened at 11! When you pull up it has a commercial front and large fence. You aren’t quite sure where to park since there are only a few parking spaces in the front (park in the back, there’s plenty of room!) and what’s behind the large wall, but when you walk in the space is huge and the wall is to keep kiddos safe in the play area!
There is a front cafe, back pub looking dining room with oversized classic bar and then a really beautiful outdoor area with a large playground, oaks to provide shade, covered seating and fans! This was the most popular hang out spot.
Dripping is known for it’s family friendly restaurants with playgrounds at so many of them and I am always so happy to see more restaurants create casual environments for people to gather and let the kids run off their Dr. Pepper!
Josh and I tried the Chicken Parm, Foccacia bread service, Brisket Suppi and Lasagna. YUM. It was all delicious and very unique. I do have to say that the Chicken Parm was the best I’ve had in Dripping! They serve it with these green noodles that are butter soft and so amazing.
Vespa Rossa is open Tuesday-Sunday 11 AM-10 PM and is located at 3799 East Highway 290 in Dripping Springs.
