The first time I heard about pickleball was 6 years ago when I was visiting a friend in a North Carolina beach town. She had just invested in a pickleball facility with her dad. It seemed like the sport for retirees and I had never heard of it before. I feel like in the last 2 years it has exploded and people of all ages are excited to play!
I remember hearing the announcement that Dreamland was closing to the public and had a big announcement and I just knew that they would reopen and focus mostly on this fast growing sport and the MLPB tournaments.
With its combination of tennis, badminton, and ping pong, pickleball is a paddle sport that can be enjoyed by players of all ages and skill levels.
And lucky for you, there are two great places to play pickleball in Dripping Springs: Dreamland and the Springs YMCA.
I followed my friends onto the Dreamland court to take some photos of them playing and now Jay is winning awards with his skill! I learned a lot about the ranking system and the rules while out with the Sants.
Dreamland is a fantastic facility that offers 16 pickleball courts, making it one of the largest pickleball centers in the area. With leagues, clinics, and open play, there’s something for everyone at Dreamland.
Open play is available from Monday to Thursday, from 9am-12pm and 6pm-9pm, and on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, from 8am-12pm. The cost is $8 per person for walk-ins, and equipment rental is available for $3 per paddle. Tournaments and leagues are also available for those looking to take their game to the next level.
At the YMCA, you can enjoy pickleball as part of your membership or pay a daily fee of $10. With three dedicated courts, the YMCA offers regular play sessions on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 12-2:45 PM and Sunday from 3-5:45 PM. Whether you’re a beginner, a seasoned player or PRO, the YMCA is a great place to play pickleball and stay active.
Whether you prefer the larger facility and tournaments offered at Dreamland or the convenience and inclusivity of the YMCA, there are great options for playing pickleball in Dripping Springs. So grab a paddle and some friends, and join in on the fun and fitness of this fast-growing sport!
