One of the most valuable things about living in Dripping Springs is that you are smack dab in the middle of the best part of Texas- the Hill Country!
You are within 1 hour of San Antonio, New Braunfels, Johnson City, Boerne, Austin, Round Rock, Bastrop and Fredericksburg. It seems like the outdoor adventure, festivals and river access are ENDLESS!
We love visiting Wimberley so much! It is such a cute tourist town that is right on the river surrounded by tiny hills and Cypress trees. The entire Blanco river is privately owned and so you have to pay for access to swim in it if you aren’t staying at an airbnb that is on the river.
You can take a dip in the Blue Hole, Jacob’s Well (when it’s open!), Cypress Falls and my new favorite is a day pass at 7A Ranch on River Road!
7A Ranch has been family owned for over 70 years and they have 1/2 mile of riverfront property right on the beautiful Blanco River! There are cabins to rent, a train to ride, an old Western village to walk around and so much more. What a unique place!
I took my boys there for a few hours and they played in the arcade, got ice cream in the old fashioned ice cream parlor, walked through the curiosities in the Cowboy Museum and then swam, fished and jumped from the rope swing in the Blanco!
River day passes range from $5-15/each depending on the day you go and they only sell 50 each day. We went on a Friday in July and they hadn’t sold out by lunch yet, so we enjoyed a huge portion of the river without it feeling crowded.
The water is anywhere from a foot deep to 20 feet deep further down the river and is suitable for all ages. Some families brought picnics and tents and stayed there all day long! That’s not a bad value for river access in July on one of the most beautiful locations in Texas.
7A is definitely a new day trip destination for my family when we want to do several fun things only 30 minutes from home. I plan to take my dad there at the end of the month and enjoy a long afternoon exploring the property and river again.
Take water shoes, floaties, snacks and drinks and plan to stay for a long time! We are already planning our trip back!
