If you recently bought a new home in Dripping Springs, or if you have been here a while and you know your house is in need of some updates, this list is for you!  Most homeowners are excited at the prospect of a home renovation, but they also find the process daunting and overwhelming. That’s where the expertise of a design professional is invaluable. By hiring a full service interior designer, you can hand off most of the process and trust us to be your home renovation guide.

  1. Measurements or As Built Drawings – Accurate documentation of the current space is where any home renovation project starts. At HouseMill Design, we use a Matterport camera to scan the home and create a 3D model. We can then pull measurements from this model and get base plan CAD drawings to begin the design process.
  1. Brainstorming Concepts – Our team of design professionals wants to hear your wishlist and your vision for your home updates, but we will also tell you what makes the most sense for your space. We take into consideration technical and practical considerations, aesthetic considerations and budget considerations to help generate the concepts that are most worth exploring.

  1. Gathering Material Samples – Rather than spending your days driving all over Central Texas to showrooms to find just the right tile and countertop samples, a designer will narrow the funnel of options and have a curated collection to share with you.
  1. Presenting Cohesive Design Options – The crux of an interior designer’s job is to create a unique design that takes into account the whole scope and the homeowner’s list of requests to craft a cohesive vision throughout the space. Rather than cherry picking materials or tackling projects in a haphazard manner, a designer’s plan will flow seamlessly throughout the entire home.
  1. Documenting the Full Plan – Once the presented designs are refined and finalized, an interior designer will document everything for the contractor, including detailed construction drawings, renderings, mood boards and finish schedules. Quotes and spec sheets can also be included for extra support.

  1. Referrals for Contractors or Tradespeople – While we do not run contractors or tradespeople through our design business, we are happy to give referrals and review any bids or estimates provided by contractors as you make your selections.
  1. Providing Project Management – One dedicated designer walks with you throughout the whole process and offers project management support once construction begins. They can answer questions remotely, be available for video calls or attend site meetings; whatever serves you best.
  1. Ordering Materials and Furnishings – Many homeowners find the process of placing and managing orders for decorative materials like light fixtures, mirrors and furnishings to be overwhelming. Our full service team includes a Procurement Manager, whose sole responsibility is to handle orders and issues that may arise with vendors.

  1. Receiving, Inspecting and Storing Deliveries – A vital, but often overlooked part of any home makeover process, is the receiving, inspection, storage and delivery of materials and furnishings. HouseMill Design has a full scale receiving warehouse right here in Dripping Springs and can receive items on your behalf and then schedule them to be delivered to the jobsite at just the right time.
  1. Installing Furnishings – Our design team loves the opportunity to take a project all the way across the finish line by setting up an install day where your new furniture will be delivered and placed in your home, art will be hung on the walls and bookshelves will be styled. We support you by adding the finishing touches to each space and making sure the project feels complete!

There’s a lot that goes into any home refresh project and we know it’s more than most homeowners can or want to tackle alone. Here at HouseMill Design, we love working on renovation projects and we are happy to guide you through the process. Please reach out to us if you are looking for a full service design team to help craft the home of your dreams!
